What’s Happening in the Gaming World: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass, and My Gaming Experiences

Now I am sitting here thinking, isn’t the technology world moving so fast? Yesterday, there was a development; today, something else is being discussed. Especially in the gaming world, every day brings new news, new updates. The subscription services situation, in particular, is dizzying!

For someone like me who is keen on technology, following these changes can be both fun and a bit exhausting. Especially for someone who codes and also occasionally dips into games, the bridges between these two worlds sometimes lead to very interesting places. For example, I recently wondered about the state of the PlayStation Plus game catalog.

You know, now we can play the games we want through monthly subscriptions instead of buying them. This is actually great for someone like me who wants to try different games and doesn’t want to pay separately for each one. Of course, there are some nuances within this system—questions like which games are coming, which are going, and which are more advantageous keep people busy. Anyway, before diving into these topics, I think I need a coffee.

This subscription service issue is truly an interesting topic. In the past, if you wanted to buy a game, you would go and buy a physical copy and pay at the counter. Now, with just a click, the game becomes yours. Of course, whether this is good for players is debatable, but for developers and platform owners, it’s definitely a major revenue stream. I wonder, does this affect the quality of the games? Because they have to add a certain number of games to the service every month.

The PlayStation Plus Game Catalog is really exciting. I can now find many games I missed or wanted to try but didn’t dare to before. For example, recently I checked if Red Dead Redemption 2 was available. If not, that’s okay, but if it was, it would be fantastic. And yes, it was on the list! I immediately downloaded and started playing.

In such moments, I also question my own gaming preferences. Maybe I’m a bit old-fashioned. I don’t try every new game right away. I prefer games with deep stories and satisfying gameplay. So, these catalogs are perfect for me. I get the chance to explore different genres and play games I couldn’t find time for earlier.

By the way, the addition and removal of games from these catalogs is another matter. Sometimes you don’t know when a game will leave, so you end up downloading and playing it in a hurry. You can’t say you don’t have time because you never know when you’ll get a chance to play it again. This situation can be a bit stressful, but what can we do—these are the quirks of technology, I guess 🙂

There’s also the other side of this, of course: Xbox Game Pass. Competition is always good, and it benefits players too. Different services, different games, different pricing… It can be confusing, but also nice. I’ve compared both in my mind. PlayStation Plus’ catalog seems to host more familiar titles, while Game Pass focuses more on new and independent works. But that’s just my personal observation; everyone’s preferences are different.
